About us
When the Archie's purchased the old Automobile Association building (No.34 in the Art Deco tour) in 2000 someone made the remark that it looked a bit like a bunker. The name stuck and the newly converted accommodation establishment became Archies Bunker Backpackers, now a renowned name in the backpacker community throughout New Zealand. After 5 years of catering to the needs of young and old travelers to Napier, Pat and Graeme decided it was their time to travel. So in December 2005 they passed the responsibility of maintaining the reputation for a homely atmosphere and pristine cleanliness on to Doug and Julie Batt.
We have continued with the high standards expected from the reputation developed which is evident with Archies Bunker achieving the Qualmark rating of 4+ stars which guarantee quality and service of a very high level. We are members of Budget Backpacker Hostels (BBH), Hawkes Bay Wine Country Incorporated and the Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand. We are committed to ensuring that your stay in Napier is memorable for all the right reasons and will assist you in discovering the beauty and highlights of the surrounding countryside.
Our aim is to ensure that no-one leaves Napier without experiencing maximum visitation within the individual's area of interest.
